Can I run my Portable Spa on an extension lead?Updated a year ago
Extension leads can be used but should be heavy duty as shown above, not the thinner variety as shown below.
Extensions should also made to the length of the run required, ie if the length of the extension cord needed from the spa plug to the house power point is 2 metres, you shouldn't use a 5 metre extension. Leads longer than the run required can cause voltage drops as well as increased heat generation within the cord due to resistance. This can lead to erratic control unit operation and/or possible electrical fires.
Best practice is to measure the length of the run required and if an extension isn't available in that size, have one made to length. Both Bunnings and Mitre 10 offer this service.
SPA CORDS SHOULD ALSO NEVER BE BURIED UNDERGROUND FOR ANY REASON! DOING SO CAN LEAD TO ERRATIC CONTROL UNIT BEHAVIOUR AND ELECTRICAL DAMAGE AND WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY!
